Just shy of the 25th anniversary of the first Mortal Kombat film, the reboot has been confirmed and a director attached!
Producing the new film will be James Wan, who recently directed Aquaman and Furious 7. Simon McQuoid will be making his feature film directorial debut with the movie. Gamers may have seen his work previously, though, in the form of the “Michael” trailer for PS3, uniting video game characters in a salute to the players who see them through their battles:
Filming will take place in Adelaide, Australia—a move which, according to South Australia Premier Steven Marshall, will be “the largest film production in South Australia’s history.”
Both Wan and McQuoid have been attached to the reboot for several years, but with a choice of filming location, it looks like the project is finally making some headway. No cast or other crew have been announced so far.
