film based on Yuki Midorikawa’s fantasy shoujo manga series Natsume Yujin-Cho, was released in China
on March 7, 2019, and made 64.78 million Chinese yuan (about 1.07 billion Japanese yen/9.6 million
US dollars) in its first three days, which surpassed the film’s total box office gross in Japan. The film
was released in 136 theaters across Japan on September 29, 2018, and earned 790 million yen (about
7 million US dollars) from its total domestic run.
On its opening day, the film earned 19.36 million yuan (320 million yen/2.87 million dollars), and became
the top-grossing film of the day in China and the first Japanese film got the crown in 2019.
By March 15, it has earned 100 million yuan (1.66 billion yen/14.9 million US dollars), and has also become
the first Japanese film to cross the 100 million yuan mark this year.
